Who We Are

Our Story and Journey

Tekere Girl Child Empowerment (TEGEM)

Founded in 2004 as a Community-Based Organization, TEGEM evolved into a recognized non-profit NGO in 2019. Our journey began in Tororo, Uganda, where a group of dedicated women identified the challenges faced by local girls. Recognizing the urgent need for support, they set out to create an organization that would empower girls with knowledge, skills, and resources.

The good health programme

We empower girls with vital health knowledge and services to ensure their well-being. Through workshops on reproductive health, hygiene, and nutrition, we equip them with the tools to make informed decisions. Our partnerships with healthcare providers ensure access to medical support, fostering a healthier future for every girl.

Social Support

TEGEM creates a safe space for girls and young women to connect, learn, and grow. We provide mentorship, counseling, and financial literacy programs to build confidence and resilience. By fostering strong support networks, we help girls overcome challenges and embrace new opportunities for a brighter future.

Music, Dance & Drama

We use creative arts to inspire confidence and self-expression among girls. Through music, dance, and drama, they develop leadership skills, teamwork, and cultural appreciation. These activities provide a platform for storytelling, advocacy, and personal growth, empowering them to find their voices and share their experiences.
